The New Year is always full of resolutions and goals and lists of things you swear you’re going to do. I mean, you may have lost track last year and the year before and the other eight years before that, but this year is different. Amiright?
Don’t worry, I’m guilty of it too. And, I fully condone making resolutions that you may or may not ever follow through with. Mine should be to stop ending sentences with prepositions obviously.
However, if you just simply don’t want to make a resolution that you won’t follow through on again, why not try one of these awesome, fun ideas. They are all super easy – well, mostly easy.
1. Awesome Sauce Jar
You don’t have to call it that – that’s just what I’m calling ours. The idea is that you get a mason jar that you can decorate, or not. Every day for a year, you write a note and place it in the jar. The note can be anything awesome that happened that day – something someone said to you, landing a promotion, a food item you ate, etc. Anything goes, as long as it made you happy. Then, on New Year’s Eve, you read all 365 notes. It’s an awesome way to reflect on all the good that happened throughout the year – things you may have forgotten about. Things you may have overlooked because something awful also happened. This is the first year I’m doing it, but I bet it won’t be the last.

2. Photo a Day Challenge
If you’re a photographer wanting to better your craft or just someone who wants to capture more memories, this is an awesome challenge to start New Year’s. If you really think you can’t commit to one photo a day, then you can do one a week. Or do a 30 day challenge only.
But, come on, you can do one photo a day. You’re phone is always in your hand anyway. I’ll be taking part in the 365 challenge, equipped with a separate theme each week. Look for the list of themes I’ll be doing soon. You can follow along on instagram and flickr.
3. Weight Loss Jars
If losing weight is a resolution for you, these are a great visual. I do really well with visuals. Each time you lose a pound you take it from the ‘pounds to lose’ jar and place it in the ‘pounds lost’ jar. Maybe tell yourself you get some grand prize once all the marbles are in the ‘pounds lost’ jar or each time you move 10 over and so on.
4. Time Capsule
I think time capsules are really cool. I wish I had done one before now as well. I also think doing one to bury for a complete stranger to find in the future is awesome too. Include a list of your favorite things such as favorite movie, tv show, food and so on. Maybe some trinkets that symbolize your life now. Whatever you think would be neat to remember in 10, 20, 50 years or for someone else to find.
5. Five Dollar Savings Plan
The five dollar savings plan is an easy way to save money. Instead of stressing yourself out saying that you are going to save so much each month, you place EVERY 5 dollar bill you come across into a jar. It adds up way, way faster than you would imagine. Even doing this with 1 dollar bills or change only adds up pretty fast.
Have I inspired you to take on any of these challenges? What are your resolutions for 2015?
