Groundhog Day Fun : Movies Featuring Time Loops

Groundhog Day, February 2nd, is coming up (also my Grandma’s birthday but y’all dont care about that!) and it got me thinking about movies featuring time loops very much similar to Groundhog Day.  So, I did what I do best and put together a list of some of my favorite movies featuring time loops that I thought I’d share with y’all.

12 Monkeys

12 Monkeys is set in a future world devastated by disease.  A convict is sent back in time to gether information about the virus which wiped out most of the human population.

Source Code

Source Code is about a soldier who wakes up in someone else’s body on board a train and finds out he is part of an experimental government program to find the bomber of the train.  He only has 8 minutes to complete this task and must repeat it until he accomplishes it.

The Butterfly Effect

A man blocks out harmful memories of events in his life but as he grows up, he finds a way to remember the lost memories.  Eventually, this leads to him finding a way to alter his life.

Deja Vu

Deja Vu is set around an ATF agent who travels back in time to save a woman from being murdered.

Edge of Tomorrow

Edge of Tomorrow is about a military officer in an alien war in which the enemy can reset the day.  The officer obtains the same power and teams up with another soldier to try and end the war.

Looper is set in 2074 in which the mob sends a target into the past where a hired gun awaits.  What happens when the mob sends back one of the hired guns to be assassinated though?

This has got to be one of the best unheard of movies I’ve ever watched.  It was one of those “Wow, this looks cheesy, let’s watch it!” choices and was so good.

Triangle is set around the passengers of a yachting trip caught in mysterious weather conditions.  When their ship is wrecked, them jump on board another ship only to wish they hadn’t.

Groundhog Day

And, of course, the ever iconic Groundhog Day which is set around a weatherman who finds himself living the same day over and over again.

What other movies would you add to this list?  Do you pay Groundhog Day much attention or is just another day?

I think this would qualify…50 First Dates with Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. It’s not necessarily a Ground Hog Day tradition, but you do relive the same day over and over and over. I just always hope the shadow is what is should be so that winter can be over ASAP by the time this day gets here!
