What I’ve Been Reading…
I was traveling all of November and had lots of plane, train and bus time in addition to staying in hostels which means no television. This all meant I read a total of 7 books this month. I devoured two young adult series (or at least all the books that are out right now) and then for my last book, I read a more serious book.
First up was The Woodlands Series by Lauren Taylor. I read all 4 within a week probably – they were amazing! My weakness are dystopian novels – The Hunger Games, Divergent and so on. If they are yours too then you’ll love this series. I believe there is a 5th one but it’s a novella, not actually part of the series. I also love how even though this author already has 5 books out, she’s still relatively new. Her Facebook page is still under 3k likes and it’s awesome how involved she is in her fanbase.
I believe I found this series through Amazon’s suggestions after reading The Woodlands Series and I’m so glad I did. Another fantastic dystopian style series – can’t wait until the 3rd book comes out! Also, another very new author.
Nothing to Envy : Real Lives in North Korea by Barbara Demick
And, then there is this book. One of the most gut-wrenching books I’ve ever read. Demick follows the lives of 6 North Koreans over the span of 15 years through the devestating famine that killed 1/5 of the population. North Korea is one of the few places on Earth we know very little about and this book gives a small insight into the country. And, it is disturbing and addictive all at the same time. Since reading it, I’ve been searching for other books to read about North Korea. Read it. Even if you don’t think this is your style of book.
What have you been reading??
